1999 35' Steam Yacht "Quiet Presence"

Reminiscent of the small passenger steamers that were still familiar sights on Maine's bays and lakes sixty years ago, this boat combines the quiet and simplicity of steam power with traditional yacht styling and joinery. Driven by twin Semple 3" x 5" x 4" V-compound engines, she is fitted-out with enough brass piping and valves to satisfy any engineer, but is designed to be run by one person from the pilothouse.
She is arranged as a day-boat to suit her owner's desires, but she could also have cruising accommodations.

She has two Semple 3"x5"x4 V-compound steam egines, about 10 hp, bought new when she was launched and driven by a Semple boiler boiler capacity--maybe 80 gal??)
burns coal or wood; she has bunker space for 1500 lbs. of coal and burns about 30 lbs/hr at full bore. makes about 7 knots tops

She is set up as a day boat, w/ seating on the fantail and in the salon; below is just a little space to duck into--room for a port-potty and small table.

Builder: Michael Porter, Chebeague Island, ME. She was launched in 1999 and was in the water for builders' trials, but the buyer ran into financial difficulties and finally made her back over to the builder for the outstanding bill. She sat in a boatyard under cover until they put her back in the water in 2004. There are less than 100 hours on the engines.

Needs some superstructure work from sitting and a paint job.
They took much of the piping out to replace it with heavier pipes; the replacement pipes are sitting available, but not installed b/c leaving them out seemed like the most sure-fire form of winterization. It will take about a day to put them back in.
